What Do Dental Implants Involve?
A dental implant is a petite metal screw that takes the place of an entire tooth. Through a concise surgical process, the dentist places the implant into the bone beneath your gums, precisely where a tooth should exist. This implant functions akin to a natural tooth root and is finalized with a restoration, such as a dental crown, to meticulously replicate the appearance and sensation of an authentic tooth.
Opting for dental implants is a significant step. While you might be considering an implant, uncertainties about the procedure might linger. We provide a comprehensive explanation here to empower you to make a well-informed choice regarding your dental treatment.

Why You Might Need Dental Implants?
Your natural teeth play a vital role in supporting the height and shape of your smile while also facilitating comfortable eating and clear speech.
However, a gap in your smile can lead to the misalignment of other teeth, increasing the risk of oral health problems. Even the loss of a single tooth can set off a series of negative effects in your mouth, adversely affecting both your oral health and the appearance of your face, ultimately impacting your overall quality of life.
Furthermore, a consequence you cannot evade is bone resorption, a natural process in which your body breaks down non-essential bone tissue to utilize minerals elsewhere.
Teeth in your jawbone apply pressure that encourages the generation of new bone tissue. Nevertheless, once teeth are absent, this bone tissue gradually dissolves, resulting in a shortened jaw and chin that contribute to wrinkles and a sunken appearance in your cheeks and lips.
Dental implants emerge as the second-best solution after natural teeth. They can prevent or rectify the aforementioned issues by replacing lost teeth effectively.

The Benefits Of Dental Implants?
The loss of a tooth can be emotionally distressing. An absent tooth can trigger self-consciousness about our smile and potentially result in various health issues. Gaps in our teeth can disrupt our bite, create discomfort while eating, and potentially contribute to bone loss or teeth misalignment.
- Regain your natural appearance – Dental implants seamlessly mimic the look and sensation of your own teeth. Crafted to perfection, they blend seamlessly with your smile, becoming indistinguishable as they match your unique bite and enamel hue.
- Enjoy unwavering confidence in your comfort – With a dental implant, the titanium post melds with your jaw bone during healing. Whether supporting a crown, bridge, or implant-retained dentures, the result is unyielding stability. Revel in laughter, smiles, and relish your favourite foods, free from worries about shifting teeth or sudden discomfort.
- Enhance bone strength – Tooth loss can lead to weakening and atrophy of the supporting bone. Dental implants, however, stimulate fresh bone growth around the implant site, fortifying the underlying bone structure.
- Dental implants stand as a lasting solution, offering a natural feel and endurance spanning decades with proper oral care.

Dental Implant Restorations
The restoration serves as the “artificial tooth” concealing the implant. While the implant remains hidden behind your smile, it’s the restoration that gives the appearance of a newly replaced tooth.
- Dental Crown – The prevalent choice for implant restoration, it conceals a single-tooth implant.
- Dental Bridge – Spanning the gap when consecutive teeth are absent, a bridge can be supported by one or two implants, efficiently replacing multiple teeth.
- Implant Denture – Enhance the stability of a removable denture by attaching it to two small implants.

The process of placing the implant is surprisingly more comfortable than you may anticipate.
Assessment
Initially, you’ll undergo a dental implant consultation to determine the suitability of implants for your situation. Your dentist will conduct X-rays and a 3D cone-beam CT scan of your jaw to assess bone density and strategize your treatment. Additionally, the dental team will obtain a scan or impression of your teeth to assist in planning the precise implant positioning.
Inserting the implant
An anesthetic is administered to ensure complete numbness at the surgical site. A small incision is made in both the gums and bone of your mouth, followed by the placement of the implant post into the prepared hole. In some cases (though not always), sutures may be necessary to close the gum area.
Finalizing the restoration
Afterward, you’ll return home to allow your implant to heal over the coming months. Upon your next visit to our practice, your dental restoration will be prepared and ready for placement. Once the restoration is in place, you’ll leave with a new and fully operational tooth.
