The Importance of Regular Cleanings and Checkups Regular, dental cleanings and checkups play a vital role in maintaining overall oral health, impacting not just your teeth but also your gums and the entire mouth. Cleanings are essential for removing plaque, tartar, and bacteria that can lead to decay, gum disease, and persistent bad breath. Dental hygienists have the tools and expertise to reach areas that are difficult to clean with standard home brushing and flossing. These professional cleanings, coupled with a comprehensive dental examination, allow the dental team to monitor your oral health closely and identify any issues early on, potentially preventing painful and costly problems.

Additionally, routine dental cleanings contribute to the natural whitening and brightening of your teeth, reducing the need for specialized bleaching treatments. These cleanings effectively:

  • Eliminate plaque, a bacteria-laden film that erodes tooth enamel.
  • Remove tartar accumulation, which is hardened plaque that can lead to gum disease.
  • Clear away stains from coffee, tea, and other substances.
  • Check for signs of gum recession, cracked or broken teeth, and other indicators of oral diseases and infections.

The Process of a Professional Teeth Cleaning

Gum Health Assessment

The health of your gums is crucial yet often overlooked. Gums not only support your teeth but also shape your smile. During the cleaning, we’ll thoroughly examine your tongue, gums, teeth, and all areas of your mouth, paying special attention to the gum line. This is to ensure the overall health of your mouth and to detect any signs of inflammation or potential gum disease. And don’t worry, we’ll be gentle when discussing your flossing habits!

Plaque and Tartar Removal

Plaque, a soft and sticky film, constantly forms on your teeth. Without regular and thorough cleaning—both at home and professionally—it can harden into tartar, often visible as darker deposits, especially near the gumline. Our hygienist uses specialized tools to meticulously remove plaque and tartar from those hard-to-reach areas. After clearing away these deposits, we’ll polish your teeth to eliminate surface stains and leave them shining.

Dental Examination

Following the cleaning, it’s the ideal time for a dentist’s examination. Your dentist will review your dental records and x-rays, focusing on any areas of concern or recurring issues. Based on this examination, we might suggest additional treatments or offer advice on preventing or mitigating tooth decay, inflammation, or gum disease. We’re also here to answer any questions you might have and address concerns about discomfort, sensitivity, or any dental pain you’ve been experiencing.

Teeth Cleaning Pricing in Newmarket

Regular dental checkups and cleanings are so effective in preventing dental issues that most insurance plans cover them almost entirely, typically every 6 months. For those without dental insurance, the cost can range from $120 to $300 or more, particularly if it’s been a long time since your last visit or cleaning.

When calculating your specific treatment cost, we consider several key factors:

  1. The current state of your oral health.
  2. The necessity for any new dental x-rays.
  3. The time required by our dental team to cater to your unique dental needs.
  4. The equipment and materials necessary for your treatment.

We place great importance on these routine appointments. They are crucial in our efforts to avoid more complex procedures, prevent severe dental discomfort, and maintain your overall health and happiness.
